Established in the 1980s by Francis Thicke, the dairy quickly became a pioneer in sustainable, organic agriculture in southeast Iowa. The Thickes, with backgrounds in both conventional and alternative farming, sought to create a model that demonstrated the viability and benefits of organic methods while producing exceptional dairy products.
The philosophy at Radiance Dairy revolves around stewarding the earth as a living system. From the earliest days, the farm eschewed synthetic chemicals, choosing instead to build fertility through crop rotation, composting, and nurturing the microbial life in the soil. This commitment led them to pursue—and attain—USDA organic certification, a rigorous process that ensures farming practices align with the highest standards of environmental responsibility.
